Building with timber is on a strong rise. Two systems stand out: timber frame construction, where a frame of studs and rails is filled with insulation, and CLT (cross-laminated timber), solid panels of cross-glued layers that act as wall and floor.
Why timber?
Timber stores CO₂, is light (smaller foundations) and ideal for prefab: elements arrive ready-made and are dry-assembled. That shortens build time and cuts nuisance.
Points to watch
Mind the detailing around moisture, fire resistance and sound between dwellings. With the right build-up and certified products, timber performs excellently.
