A new timber construction system called Builders Key shows that a house can stay standing without any screws or glue. The structure is made up of CNC-milled components that fit together precisely and simply click into place. That makes both assembly and later disassembly easier than with many common building methods.
Clicking instead of screwing
Because the timber parts are machined in fine detail, they slot together seamlessly. Fasteners such as screws, nails or adhesive are not needed. This approach has a clear advantage: a building put together this way can be taken apart again later. The components then become available for reuse, which fits the growing demand for circular construction.
Lighter and more economical
The system stands out for its efficiency. The structure is around fifty percent lighter than building with cross-laminated timber (CLT). Material use is lower too: roughly twenty percent less timber is required than with traditional timber frame construction. Less weight means lighter foundations and easier transport, while lower material use directly affects both costs and environmental impact.
These are relevant developments for the construction sector. The pressure to build faster, more sustainably and with fewer raw materials keeps rising. Systems that are prefabricated and demountable align well with that shift.
