Brickwork: bricks per m²

Calculate the number of bricks or blocks per m² and for your whole wall — by brick format, including waste.

Total bricks
1,241
Bricks per m²75.8
Wall area15.6

From face size + joint: bricks/m² = 1 / ((l+joint) × (h+joint)). Full-brick bond doubles the count. Actual use depends on bond, openings and breakage.

How do you calculate bricks per m²?

The count per m² comes from the brick face plus the joint: bricks/m² = 1 / ((length + joint) × (height + joint)). A full-brick wall (two half-brick leaves) doubles the count. Multiply by the wall area and add cutting waste.

Frequently asked questions

How many bricks per m²?
Half-brick with a 10 mm joint is about 75–76 per m² in Waal format. Other sizes or joints change this — the calculator works it out exactly.
Half-brick vs full-brick?
Half-brick is one brick thick; full-brick is two leaves, so twice as many bricks per m².
How much waste?
Allow 5% for straight walls, more for many corners, reveals or special bonds.
Is mortar included?
No, this tool counts bricks. Masonry mortar is roughly 0.02–0.03 m³ per m² of half-brick wall.
